Deia Village: Deia has some 16 restaurants, offering international cuisine, from local mallorquin food to pizzas. There are also a couple of small bars where the occasional visiting musician may play an impromptu set with many of the locals and visitors joining in. A good regular bus service operates from Deia to either Valldermossa, nearby Soller and its port (15 minutes drive by car) or the capital Palma (30 minutes).
Local Info: Deia is quite possibly one of the most beautiful villages in Mallorca. Spectacularly situated among the rugged north west coast within the surrounding mountains of the 'Serra De Tramuntana' and the sea.
Though one of Mallorca's smallest municipalities, only 15 square kilometres and 677 inhabitants, Deia is traditionally one of the best known and loved villages on the island. Made famous by the English poet Robert Graves, who arrived in the 30's and wrote "I Claudius". He fell in love with Deia and is buried in the tiny cemetery in the village church. It is the haven of artists, musicians and writers. The beautiful old stone and traditionally built houses which time has not changed spread around it's church perched on top of the hill, in the midst of olive and cypress trees.
Deia is a paradise for walkers and climbers, especially during the early months of the year. Down the a dusty track through the olive groves lays 'Cala' the cove, where the remaining fishermen still go out at dusk to cast their nets. There are two small restaurants and it is perfect for snorkelling and swimming from this pebbled beach.

Places Of Interest: The Carthusian Monastery at Valldermossa was the winter quarters for George Sand and Frederick Chopin where he wrote his 'Raindrop Prelude'. An interesting presentation by Michael Douglas at his Costa Nord Foundation provides an entertaining historical Film-Story of the spectacular coastline. A very pretty village definitely worth a visit.
Soller is an attractive town, with stunning looking town houses originally owned by merchants who had grown rich from the produce of the lemon and orange groves that are still there today. There are many good shops to explore and some very good restaurants, while the narrow medieval streets are worth a long leisurely stroll down. A wooden tram (many are old trams from San Francisco) links the town to Port Soller where you can trundle around the outskirts of the town, looking at wonderful scenery.
